Farming Simulator 25 dedicated server setup (Windows)
The FS25 dedicated server runs only on Windows and needs a second license. Here is how to set it up on a Windows VPS and configure it in the web panel.
The Farming Simulator 25 dedicated server has two quirks: it runs on Windows only, there is no native Linux, and it requires its own second game license. That is exactly why many people look for alternatives to expensive rental servers. On your own Windows VPS you keep full control over the map, mods, and saves. This guide sets the server up on a Windows server.

A second license is required
The dedicated server needs its own licensed copy of Farming Simulator 25, separate from the copy you play on. One key cannot be used for playing and for the server at the same time. So plan for a second license (Steam, Epic, or GIANTS).
In short
Open the Windows VPS over Remote Desktop, install the official dedicated server software, open the web panel in your browser on port 8080, sign in with the second license, set the map and passwords, and open the game port plus port 8080 in the Windows firewall.
The FS25 server benefits from strong single-core performance too, because the game simulation does not spread across arbitrarily many cores. Our EPYC Turin cores (Zen 5) deliver exactly that, along with fast NVMe SSD for the map and saves. ComputeBox offers a Windows Server 2022 image, so you do not need a machine of your own running around the clock.
The server sits in a GDPR-compliant German data center with low pings for players across the DACH region. You pay a flat monthly rate instead of per slot like on a rental server. For an FS25 server, plan for around 8 GB of RAM, and the Bremen Pro plan with 16 GB leaves room for mods and more players.
A Windows server is managed over Remote Desktop (RDP), not SSH. On Windows, open the Remote Desktop Connection, enter your server's IP address, and sign in with the user Administrator and the password shown or sent to you during provisioning. You land on the server's Windows desktop.
Sign in with the account that owns the second license on farming-simulator.com and download the official dedicated server software. Extract it into its own folder on the server, for example C:\FS25-Server.
64-bit required
The dedicated server runs only on 64-bit Windows. Windows Server 2022 meets that, but make sure to plan enough disk space for the map and mods, around 45 GB is a good guideline.
Start the server application from the extracted folder. The dedicated server comes with its own web panel, which is where you configure everything. In the browser on the server, open:
Sign in to the panel. On the first start you enter your license so the server can register with the game. The status at the top of the panel shows green "online" or red "offline".
Start the server with the Start button on the panel home page. So players can connect, open two ports in the Windows firewall: the game port shown in the panel, and web port 8080 if you want to reach the panel remotely.
Open Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security and add one inbound rule for the game port and one for port 8080. For security, you should restrict access to the web panel to your own IP.
Secure the web panel
The panel on port 8080 controls your entire server. Do not expose it to the internet unprotected. Restrict the firewall rule to your own IP address, or reach the panel only through the Remote Desktop session.
Yes. GIANTS requires a separate licensed copy for the dedicated server, apart from the copy you play on. One key does not work for both at the same time. This is the main reason a self-hosted VPS is still often cheaper than an expensive rental server.
Does the FS25 dedicated server run on Linux?
No. GIANTS ships the dedicated server for Windows only, there is no native Linux build. That is why you need a Windows image, which ComputeBox offers with Windows Server 2022.
How much RAM does an FS25 server need?
Plan for around 8 GB of RAM per server as a solid starting point. With many mods, a large map, or a full player count, more helps. The Bremen Pro plan with 16 GB gives enough headroom.
Enable the Crossplay allowed option in the panel. Xbox and console players need this setting to connect.
How many players can the server have?
The game allows up to 16 players at once. You set the slot count in the panel. Unlike a rental server, you pay no per-slot surcharge for it.
How do I back up my saves?
The server automatically creates savegame backups that you can restore in the panel. For an extra copy, download the savegame files through the panel, or back up the server with the panel's backup feature.
