Your Right to Switch

The hosting service provided by ComputeBox (provider: Moritz Möller Workstations, brand ComputeBox) is a data processing service within the meaning of the EU Data Act. You have the right to switch to another provider at any time, to port your data to your own (on-premises) infrastructure, or to terminate the service. We remove the obstacles to such a switch within what is technically feasible.

How to Submit a Switching Request

Send your switching request in text form (e.g., by email) to [email protected]. There is no notice or advance-announcement period. The switching process starts immediately upon receipt of your request. We thereby deliberately waive the maximum period of two months permitted under the Data Act.

Deadlines at a Glance

• Initiating the switch: at any time, no period.
• Transition period (support for the switch): a maximum of 30 calendar days. If the switch is not technically feasible within this period, we will inform you, with reasons, within 14 working days of your request and specify an alternative transition period of at most 7 months; during this period we continue the service in full.
• Extension: you may extend the transition period once by a period that you consider more appropriate for your purposes.
• Retrieval period after the end of the contract: at least 30 calendar days to retrieve your exportable data free of charge, regardless of how the contract ended. Retrieval is not conditional on the settlement of outstanding claims.
• Termination: the contract is deemed terminated upon successful completion of the switch; if you request only erasure, it ends upon completion of the erasure. We will notify you in text form once your data has been fully provided; a 14-day objection period runs from receipt of that notification, and you will be informed of the termination.

Data Export and Formats

We make your exportable data available in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format. The supported export format is a vzdump archive containing the virtual disk images (qcow2 or raw). In addition, you have full root access to your server throughout the entire contract term and can copy your data out yourself at any time.

Data Structures and Formats (Register under Art. 26 (b) Data Act)

Up-to-date details of the supported data structures and data formats:

• vzdump archive: the backup format of the Proxmox Virtual Environment. The archive (extension .vma, optionally compressed as .vma.zst, .vma.gz, or .vma.lzo) contains the disk images of the virtual machine and a VM configuration file.
• Disk images: in qcow2 format (QEMU Copy-On-Write, version 3) or raw. Reference: the official QEMU format specifications (docs/interop/qcow2.txt and docs/interop/qed_spec.txt in the QEMU project); qcow2 and raw are common, openly documented formats that are interoperable with QEMU/KVM and common virtualization tools.
• Metadata: the VM configuration (CPU, RAM, network and storage configuration) is included as a plain-text configuration file in the vzdump archive.
• Standards and interoperability: the formats used (qcow2, raw) are openly documented and can be converted into other common formats using qemu-img. Proprietary or closed exchange formats (e.g., OVF/OVA) are not used.

Charges

Switching is free of charge. No switching charges of any kind apply. Regular usage fees for the services actually used until termination remain unaffected by this.

Known Restrictions

• Export in OVF/OVA format is not offered.
• Snapshots are not an export format.
• Provider-internal operational and billing data, as well as material protected by third-party rights or trade secrets, are not exported.

Deletion after the End of the Contract

Upon the end of the contract, your virtual server is stopped. Final deletion takes place at the earliest 7 days after the end of the contract. We announce both steps and the exact deletion date in the contract-end notifications by email. A free data export is available before deletion. If you make a data or switching request within this window, we convert the affected data into an archive that is held for 30 days.
